Decision time - your help needed

Albeit somewhat disappointed by the lack of congratulatory text messages from around the world, I've resolved to try to get SOME feedback one more time. (A notable exception being Herr Helms, who's won himself a box of crackers for his correct answer to the question "Who wrote this?" in the Post "Photos 3.3: Train Journey to Lago Titicaca". It was, of course, JRR Tolkien, who put these words into Bilbo & Frodo Baggins' mouth in The Lord of the Rings!)

Enough with the nerdiness. As you might be aware, I'm currently in La Paz, having climbed my first 5000m mountain today (Chacaltaya, 5300m, just 2 hours out of La Paz, how's that for a nerd?). I made the rounds of a few of the tour operators in La Paz after that, and I'm in a bit of a bind concerning my next steps.

If you're in a hurry and reading this at work, help me with this:

should I go for the high mountain buzz & long trek (ALT 1)
or
for the more diverse (and expensive) jungle & short trek (ALT 2) version?

Long version; here are the options in Bolivia for the next three weeks:
  • climbing Huayna Potosi (6100m) close to La Paz, 3 days (100 EUR)
  • 1 more trek - 4 (Laguna Glacial) to 7 (Illampu circuit) days in the Cordillera Real (150 to 250 EUR)
  • going to an Eco-lodge in the jungle around Rurrenabaque - 3 to 4 days of wildlife watching (350 EUR, incl flight from La Paz and back)
  • Salar de Uyuni - Uyuni (BOL) to San Pedro de Atacama (CHI), 3 to 4 days by 4WD (100 EUR)
  • Parque Nacional Sajama (BOL) & PN Lauca (CHI) - an alternative to touristy Uyuni, without the infrastructure but perhaps more of a relaxed, made-to-measure trip
  • Potosi, Sucre, Tupiza - various towns of major or minor import and attraction

Mutually exclusive alternative packages I've come up with:
  • ALT 1:
  1. Aug 20th to 23rd - climb Huayna Potosi
  2. Aug 24th - day's rest in La Paz
  3. Aug 25th & 26th - to Sorata to sort out a trek
  4. Aug 27th to Sep 2nd - trek for 7 days in the Cordillera Real
  5. Sep 3rd - day's rest in Sorata/La Paz
  6. Sep 4th - to Uyuni
  7. Sep 5th to Sep 8th - Uyuni to San Pedro de Atacama (via the salt flats)
  8. Sep 9th - Bus to Salta, Argentina (here's where the R&R bacchanalia starts)
  9. Sep 23rd - flight out from Buenos Aires
Budget: 800 EUR (inkl. travel costs, accomodation and food)

  • ALT 2:
  1. Aug 20th to 24th - fly to Rurrenabaque, spend 3 days in an Eco-Lodge in the jungle
  2. Aug 25th & 26th - to Sorata to sort out a trek
  3. Aug 27th to 30th - 4 day trek in the Cordillera Real
  4. Aug 31st - day's rest in Sorata/La Paz
  5. Sep 1st - to Oruro (great restaurant there) and on to Potosi by train
  6. Sep 2nd - Potosi (maybe explore the mines?)
  7. Sep 3rd & 4th - to Uyuni
  8. Sep 4th to 7th - Uyuni to San Pedro de Atacama (via the salt flats)
  9. Sep 8th - day's rest & visiting sights around San Pedro de Atacama
  10. Sep 9th - as above
Budget: 900 EUR (inkl. travel costs, accomodation and food)

What would you advise? As I say, I've got to start making some decisions by tomorrow night if I am to get most of this done without rushing...
